Slinky Seismometers In Schools

The Slinky Seismometers in School Sites is a subsection of the S@SS program. Slinky seismometers are an educational tool used to help students gain an introductory knowledge of seismology, by being able to understand and see the different components of a seismometer. Slinky seismometers are a relatively inexpensive, yet effective tool for teaching students to understand how an earthquake is recorded, in an interesting way that students can actually see the seismometer at work. Students will be introduced to reading a seismogram by interpreting the data recorded by the slinky seismometer to determine an earthquake, which will enhance both mathematical and computational skills.
